Creating Tomorrow
Where do you want to be a year from now? Five years from now? Ten years from now?
Where do you want to be a year from now? Five years from now? Ten years from now?
It's an interesting question I pose to people when I'm speaking, training, or coaching. I was recently talking with a group of martial arts school owners, many trying to reopen or regrow their school after being significantly impacted by the COVID pandemic. Many of them could not articulate their vision for what they wanted their school (and their life) to look like even 12 months from now.
But having a clear vision for where you want to go, what you want to be, and what you want to accomplish is essential because our thoughts shape our actions. And it is the action steps we take that ultimately lead us to our destiny. Our thoughts create our tomorrow.
You get to create your own tomorrow. You get to choose what will go right, what will go wrong, what you will do and not do. Once you create a mental image of your future, your brain sees that image as your intended outcome. It then directs your thoughts (and corresponding actions) to make that image become a reality in your life.
That's a sobering thought.
Yet how many of us actually take the time to create the future WE truly want? How many of us will actually take the time to envision a more successful future where we are able to have more freedom, more money, more autonomy, doing what we truly love to do?
Far too often we get into the rut of doing the same things over and over, wondering why nothing changes for us. We continue to make excuses, telling ourselves why we can't achieve a greater level of success in our lives, and our brains obediently comply with these thoughts - and nothing changes.
But you can change this reality.
When you have a clear picture of where you want to be, and what you want to achieve, you can reverse-engineer the action steps required to get there.
The mind sees in pictures. It cannot distinguish between a virtual image and an actual image. Successful people create a clear, concise picture of where they want to be, what they want to have, and what they want to accomplish - and they hold that image firmly in their mind, seeing it as their future reality.
As a result, their brains obediently comply by creating the thoughts and corresponding actions that move them toward that future, successful image of themselves.
As you think, you become.
So, what are you thinking?
When you have a clear picture of where you want to be, and what you want to achieve, you can reverse-engineer the action steps required to get there.
You have to create that image, and hold it firmly until it becomes a reality in your life.
How do you do that?
Let me encourage you to find a quiet place to think, with a whiteboard, pen and paper, or something to record your thoughts. Then start envisioning what you want your more successful future to look like 12 months from now. Five years from now. Ten years from now. Think into questions like these:
Where do you want to be 12 months from now? 5 years from now? 10 years from now?
What do you want to be doing?
What type of money do you want to be earning?
Where will you go on vacation with your family or friends?
What type of automobile will you be driving?
Will you be getting a raise, a promotion, or running your own successful business?
See yourself earning more money, enjoying more freedom, enjoying less stress, having more autonomy over your life, making a more significant impact in the lives of others. See your business prospering, your employees well paid and happy, your customers thrilled with the products or services you're providing.
The more refined you can create that image in your mind, the more real it becomes. And the more real it becomes, the more your brain will obediently direct your thoughts and corresponding actions to live this out and bring it to pass.
When you have a clear picture of where you want to be, and what you want to achieve, you can reverse-engineer the action steps required to get there.
As you think, you become.
So, what are you thinking?
Change the image, and you change your future.
